在这部天地一沙鸥纪录片片中,居住在哥斯大黎加偏远农村的萝拉(Laura)，独自扶养着七个孩子，生活十分艰辛。村里其他家庭也有相同问题，因为工作缺乏，造成男性人口外流，人们四散谋生、家不成家。萝拉本着解决贫困生活与加强村民人际关系维系的初衷，成立ASOMOBI协会。协会初始成员均为留在农村里照顾孩子与家庭的农妇，这些没有机会受过教育、甚至没有明确目标的妇女们，透过这个协会选定以种植咖啡为目标。格蕾丝(Grace Mena)是哥斯大黎加唯一的女性咖啡贸易商，因缘际会下到协会教导如何正确的处理咖啡豆。从采收到去果肉与外膜，到正确的烘干与保存，让协会的成员们在咖啡事业上更为精进。
A Small Section of the World is an inspirational story about a group of women from a remote farming region of Costa Rica whose ideas sparked a revolution in the coffee growing world. After the men of the village left in search of work the women came together to imagine a different future for themselves, their families and their community. The film follows the impact of this remarkable story of perseverance as it touches lives around the globe and shows how these resourceful women overcame adversity to change the culture in their small section of the world to one of prosperity and sustainability. Inspired by their story, multi-Grammy winner and the best selling female rock performer of all time, Alanis Morissette, contributed an original anthem to the film, co-written with Costa Rican artist and Grammy winner Carlos Tapado Vargas.
