This is a documentary about the bravery and compassion of a childhood under extreme circumstances. The four children of the Xia family live amidst the frigid, misty mountains of northeastern Yunnan Province, China, at an elevation of over 3800 meters. With absentee migrant worker parents, the Xia siblings are forced to fend for themselves and to create their own family constellation. They supply each other with warmth and affection, sibling to sibling. Every morning, in a cold predawn fog, the two youngest children trek 10 km alone across the mountains to reach the local primary school. In the face of such hardships and isolation, the youngest children hold on to the anticipation of their older sister's return home from county seat middle school. But can they grasp that their sister's return means that her educational opportunities have run out and that now the oldest brother will also need to make his way in the world as a migrant worker?
