在这部幕末纯情传爱情片中,つかこうへいの同名小説を映画化した時代劇コメディ。“新選組の沖田総司は女だった”との大胆な設定を基に美麗の総司を巡って坂本竜馬や新選組の面々が恋のバトルを繰り広げる。時は幕末。新選組の隊員を募っていた近藤勇と土方歳三の前で鮮やかな剣さばきを披露した美青年・沖田総司。やがて、新選組として近藤、土方らと行動を共にするようになった総司。京都の治安を守り、反幕勢力の鎮圧に務めるが、そんな総司の前に薩長同盟ならびに倒幕を目論む男・坂本竜馬が現われた。抜け目のない竜馬は美剣士・総司が女であることに気づき、いつしか恋に落ちてしまう…。
In the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate, there was a cute warrior, Souji Okita, who belonged to the armed police of the shogunate in Kyoto. Very few knew that Souji was not a boy, but a woman. Because a friendship had sprung up between Toshizou and Ryouma, Toshizou got angry and slashed at Souji with a sword. Unwillingly, she unsheathed her sword and thought that she might get love if she was killed by the man she loved.
